Hawaiian Islands

E komo mai (e komo mai) – translated from colloquial Hawaiian means “Welcome”!

As you might have guessed, the photographs show the Hawaiian Islands – an archipelago of volcanic origin from islands and atolls located in the North Pacific Ocean.

The islands got their name from the largest island – Hawaii, and it in turn comes from the proto-Polynesian word “Hawaiki”, which translates as “place of the Gods” or “Homeland”.

“Place of the Gods” is unique in nature, as you can see for yourself by reading some facts about the archipelago.

  • Of all coral reefs in the United States, about 80% are in the Hawaiian Islands;
  • Kilauea Iki on the Big Island – the most active volcano in the world, Haleakala Crater on Maui – the world’s largest dormant volcano;
  • The average rainfall per year is 1210 cm, and Mount Waialeale is among the world leaders in precipitation;
  • Oahu has the best surfing beaches that attract a huge number of tourists;
  • On the island of Molokai there are the highest sea cliffs in the world, with a height of 1100 to 1200 meters above sea level;
  • The official Hawaiian gem, black coral, which is used in jewelry, takes fifty years to mature;
  • The height of the peak of Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano, is 4,205 m above sea level, and its underwater base is over 10,000 m, which surpasses Everest!

Hawaii is definitely a real paradise that has been associated with warmth and relaxation among people all over the world for many years.

Fujiyama (Fuji)

Fujiyama (Fuji) is an active stratovolcano on the Japanese island of Honshu, 90 kilometers southwest of Tokyo.

A stratovolcano or layered volcano is a type of volcano that has a conical shape and is composed of many solidified layers of lava, tephra and volcanic ash. It is characterized by a tall, steep shape and periodic explosive eruptions.

The ejected lava is viscous and thick, so that it hardens before it can spread far.

The height of the volcano is 3776 m (Kengamine Peak, the highest point in Japan). At present, the volcano is considered to be weakly active, the last eruption was in 1707-1708.

Mount Fuji is a popular climbing destination in Japan and beyond. It is divided into 10 levels, from the 5th level to the top there are 4 routes: Kawaguchiko, Subashiri, Gotemba and Fujinomiya. There are also routes from the foot of the mountain: Shojiko, Yoshida, Suyama and Murayama.

Fuji is visited by approximately 200,000 people every year, 30% of whom are foreigners.
